P.R.O.U.D. MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of P.R.O.U.D. is the ongoing revitalization of the Pontiac Central Business
District through focused promotions, design, economic restructuring and effective
organization in cooperation with the Downtown Business Community, the local City
Government, assisted by a cadre of dedicated Volunteers.

MARKET POSITION STATEMENT
Pontiac is a vibrant and friendly downtown filled with a blend of specialty retail
shoppes and professional services located around the beautiful Livingston County
Courthouse. Many downtown businesses offer specialize services such as free
delivery, free gift wrap. Downtown attracts repeat customers who shop for quality and
unique merchandise and service.

VISION STATEMENT
Downtown Pontiac will continue to be a successful, well maintained historic district that
services local customers as well as attracting tourists. Bus tours will visit Pontiac on a
regular basis to visit the unique downtown specialty shoppes and Pontiac’s historical
landmarks. Pontiac’s central business district will be filled with locally owned
businesses that offer superb service and quality merchandise. As the heart of the city,
the central business district will experience constant growth as the retail base is
expanded by using second floors. The retail mix will be complemented with variety of
professional services. Pontiac will offer convenient parking and public rest room
facilities. The image of downtown will continue to improve as the organizational
leadership base works together to provide community events that capitalize on Pontiac’
s unique heritage.

8 Guiding Principles of the Main Street Approach

1.        PARTNERSHIP- Both the public & private sector become involved in successful
programs. Both see the benefits of downtown revitalization, and both are willing to
bear some of the burden.
2.        FOCUS ON EXISTING ASSETS- Successful communities understand their
strengths and find ways COMPREHENSIVE- Successful programs take a
comprehensive approach. One or two big projects can’t fix downtown.
3.        INCREMENTAL- Successful programs take pride in steady, incremental
improvements.
4.        SELF-HELP- Successful downtowns assume responsibility for their fate.
5.        PUBLIC-PRIVATE to capitalize on them.
6.        QUALITY- Successful communities focus on quality. They know that tier historic
buildings establish a quality environment.
7.        IMPLEMENTATION- Successful programs take action. They develop plans, and
then they carry them out.
8.        CHANGE- Successful communities change with times. They follow the market.
They change their attitudes. They take risks.

What's in it for you?  P.R.O.U.D. works for the benefit of all of Pontiac, not just
downtown.  When downtown prospers, the entire community benefits.  A healthy
downtown means increased traffic and business for the entire community.  It also
means increased tourism, more jobs, better services and a better place to live.  This
provides a stronger tax base through new and stronger businesses.  JOIN
